Cogeneration Potential Studies
We provide cogeneration potential studies at various levels of detail, ranging from two-day preliminary screening studies to complete specifications suitable for turnkey proposals from suppliers and contractors. Projects

Energy Management Plans
We develop energy management plans for organizations that desire to reduce their energy consumption. Prior to developing an energy management plan, we assess energy use and create an energy-use baseline. Our staff of professional engineers, certified energy managers, and measurement and verification professionals has the expertise to identify energy-savings opportunities and to implement and manage an energy management plan. We can also train staff and lead employee-awareness programs.

An energy management plan typically includes the following:

  • Monthly forecast of energy use and cost for one to five years
  • Procedures for monitoring energy use
  • Identification of energy savings opportunities
  • Schedule for the investment and implementation of energy efficiency projects

Energy Pricing Contract and Risk Management Services
We provide assistance in determining risk tolerance, resource requirements, and price expectations. We can also evaluate energy suppliers. Our energy pricing contract and risk management services include the following:

  • Regulatory briefing
  • Contract service option analysis
  • Bid preparation and evaluation
  • Contract negotiation
  • Option sensitivity/risk assessment

Energy Pricing Services
We provide a daily pricing sheet which details the current price for both electricity and natural gas in appropriate markets and, when necessary, explains significant deviations. In addition, we publish a monthly Outlook Report that reviews electricity and natural gas prices for the coming month and details what factors are likely to influence those prices.

Energy Purchasing Strategies
We recommend a natural gas purchase strategy for the coming purchase period based on forecast need, the current natural gas price trend, and market forecasts. We base the natural gas need on previous natural gas consumption records, and, if several years of information are available, we can normalize consumption for weather and calculate the average to provide a likely gas consumption forecast. Projects

Energy Use Analysis
We provide detailed analyses of electricity and gas use to correct problems and improve efficiency. Our energy use analysis services include the following:

  • Peak demand analysis
  • Furnace and boiler efficiency analysis
  • Pump and fan efficiency analysis
  • End use consumption analysis (determines energy consumption per use, such as lighting, HVAC, domestic water, and process)
  • End use efficiency and improvement potential analysis

Energy Use Auditing
We monitor and record energy consumption and usage patterns and examine how these patterns vary according to building occupancy and industrial production. Our energy use auditing services include the following:

  • Electric and gas meter data collection and review
  • Billing analysis and verification
  • Electric and gas equipment inventories
  • Equipment metering
  • Calculation of energy use intensities per building area and process use
  • Ongoing monitoring of energy efficiency per building or process use

Funding Assistance
We help industry obtain government and utility funding for energy efficient projects. Although there are several programs available to help businesses increase their efficiency and reduce energy costs, the application process can be daunting for non-engineers. As a professional energy consulting firm, we have the expertise to complete and submit funding applications on behalf of industry. In addition, we will provide supporting documentation and conduct pre- and post-retrofit studies to verify energy savings.

GHG Emissions Inventories
We conduct GHG emissions inventories following internationally recognized protocols and standards.

GHG Reduction Plans
We identify GHG reduction opportunities and develop GHG reduction plans for the commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.

Load Forecasts
We provide load forecasting services to both utilities and to large energy consumers. Our experience with end-use technologies, combined with our economic analysis and modelling capabilities, places us in the unique position of being able to present load forecasts based on both economic and end-use projections. Primary to any resource management/acquisition decision, a load forecast provides an estimate of future use, identifies changes in resource requirements, and highlights uncertainties around those changes. The forecast can then be used in planning for different potential outcomes.

Measurement and Verification Plans
We develop measurement and verification (M&V) plans, based on the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). An M&V plan confirms the energy savings resulting from an energy conservation project.

Motor Management Workshops
We conduct workshops on developing industrial motor management plans that incorporate motor purchase, repair, replacement, installation, and maintenance policies. An industrial facility with a comprehensive motor management plan will save energy, minimize downtime, and reduce maintenance.

Technology and Equipment Reviews
We keep current on many technologies/equipment and can assist large energy consumers in determining how these developments will affect their costs. We have also worked with testing and R&D facilities to verify equipment performance and efficiency levels. We are up-to-date on an extensive range of technologies and equipment, including:

  • adjustable speed drives
  • bio systems for effluent treatment
  • boilers
  • burners
  • chillers
  • compressors
  • control equipment
  • conveyors
  • dry kilns
  • electric motors
  • lighting
  • low NOx burners
  • pneumatic transfer systems
  • process heating
  • pumps
  • refrigeration
  • transformers

Training
We provide client training workshops and seminars on a variety of topics including design and efficiency developments for equipment and processes with cost and commercial availability, market trends and issues, and electricity and gas pricing.
